Quite a stir has been caused by the online talk organized by CinemaChile, launched on March 8, International Women’s Day, between director Maite Alberdi and actress Daniela Vega, moderated by our Executive Director Constanza Arena.
A magnetic, unprecedented encounter was watched around the world. The Chilean documentary filmmaker that is currently making history, Maite Alberdi, and national actress and global icon Daniela Vega joined a Zoom call online to talk about Chilean cinema, their careers, and the Academy Awards.
They chatted about the latest feature film by Maite, The Mole Agent, preselected in two categories for the Oscars — Best Documentary and Best Foreign Language Film — a film that has had a huge cultural impact on our country as well as abroad. Meanwhile, Daniela Vega shared her experience at Oscars after being launched into stardom with A Fantastic Woman, the first Chilean film to win the award for Best Foreign Language Film. She also made history for being the first openly trans person to present an Oscar, at the ceremony in 2018.
Moderated by our Executive Director, Constanza Arena, the encounter was a never-before-seen event that delved into timely topics through the voices of two of the most important women in our film industry.
“We thought that two women who are so committed to cinema would be able to provide a dialogue that illuminates not only the film The Mole Agent for its narrative innovation, but also all of the light it shines on the ‘pandemic of loneliness among the elderly’ that Alberdi has denounced on more than one occasion,” says Constanza.
