Psicoticas Inseguras is one of the Chilean web series that has resonated the most over the last few years, cultivating thousands of followers who feel identified by the feminist experiences that are explored in each episode. This reception is incredible considering that the creators, Pamela Barvo and Javiera Pinto managed to accomplish more than a million views without advertising or support for the promotion. Thus, this pair of creators has shown that a wide audience can be reached through new forms of production and distribution, which reside outside the established canons of industry, forging a space that puts friendship between women at the center of the narrative.
The acclaimed series premiered on the YouTube platform in 2016, came back this 2020 for a celebrated second season, and for our edition of Tuesdays of Chilean Series it will be available and exclusively subtitled in English, with two episodes that were released this year. The invitation is so that global audiences can be enchanted by this audiovisual phenomenon that mixes pop, melancholy and the transgressive. Work frustrations, sexual insecurities and the search for stability and meaning are being experienced in Psicóticas Inseguras, validating and giving life to the conflicts of the millennial generation. With a tone that goes between humor, absurdity and sadness, this series addresses the endless spiral of adulthood and friendship relationships as true life and livelihood companions, able to manage this period of life.
Written and created by Barvo and Pinto, the series was directed by Iñaki Goldaracena, produced by Caudal Films and partly financed by the National Audiovisual Fund (CNCA) 2019. It also had the support of its fans, who contributed in a crowdfunding campaign that allowed the shooting to take place in 2018. The series was selected for the Carballo Interplay Digital Content Festival and nominated for Best Comedy Cast at the Rio WebFest festival.
