This Thursday, Killing Will Willys, first feature by director Gaspar Antillo, produced by Fabula, won the award for Best New Director at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The event, which would have taken place this month in New York but had to be postponed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, set a precedent by turning its annual edition into an online event with “projections” via streaming.

The film, which will form part of the new CinemaChile International Film Catalogue, boasts a renowned cast composed of actor of Chilean origin Jorge García (Lost), Luis Gnecco and Millaray Lobos, and was selected in the International Narrative Competition category of the grand North American affair.
The feature film delves into the life of Memo Garrido, who had been a child performer in the Latin music industry in the early 90s. Decades later, he lives as a recluse in the South of Chile and barely communicates with the outside world. The unexpected appearance of Marta, a woman who changes his world forever, obligates him to confront the dark incident that destroyed his career.
“This story was born out of the curiosity, perhaps morbid curiosity, of looking behind the curtain, accessing that backstage that gives insight into the human being behind the artist,” comments the director.
Shot between Santiago and Puerto Octay (Chile), Antillo’s first feature film will be distributed on streaming platform Netflix.
