Chilean cinema continues garnering new accolades from around the world, this time with the short film No es ella, by Samuel Gonzalez (Culiaos, 2016, Ruido, 2019) that was selected for the Filmmakers of tomorrow section of the super-exclusive Telluride Film Festival.
Telluride is a prestigious American event that has generated great expectations in this new in-person version that will take place between 2 and 6 September and where No es ella will have its international premiere on September 4. Bravo to the team!
A look at the LGBTIQ community
No es ella is a short film developed in Havana, Cuba and Valdivia, Chile, and was produced by Salsosos Films and Remando. From one extreme to the other, its protagonists immerse themselves in a simple yet deep conversation that seeks to confront a socially ignored truth.
The film is a reminder about fear, about those people in the LGBTIQ community who still face the terror of discrimination and rejection in their social spheres.
“I thought it would be necessary to shine light on a moment of his transition where there is a great deal of fear, as well as the ignorance of his environment that is represented in the role of Gastón Salgado,” said the director.
The short film that was part of the CinemaChile 2020 Catalogue, having its first pre-screening at Talents New York and premiering a few weeks ago in Chile in the National Talent section of SANFIC. ”The reception by the public was beautiful, with some very nice comments that were very emotional. Many people wrote to me from all over the country. I think that's one of the things we've gained through online festivals, to be able to reach all of Chile, " Samuel said.
In addition to Telluride, No es ella prepares to continue on to other international festivals, including the New York Latino Festival and then returning to Chile at FICViña.
