>>> More than 90 films and around 100 national filmmakers are part of the 2020 edition of the international film catalog, which is available as of today on the CinemaChile website.
>>> The publication is launched, as always, within the framework of the Marché du Film in Cannes and marks the beginning of national participation in the French industry meeting. The new catalog includes films which will be released over the next 12 months, and together, they build a narrative of multiple approaches to a world in constant change.
Every year CinemaChile launches its new international film catalog and this 2020, despite the contingency, was not going to be the exception: during the unparalleled online version of the Marché du Film of Cannes, the ProChile sector brand CINEMACHILE published this morning the annual edition of its International Catalog of Chilean Cinema, a publication that brings together feature films and short films, of all genres, completed or in their last post-production phase, and which will be promoted on international cinema circuits for the next 12 months, that is, until May 2021, when the new version is released. This catalog is the main working and consulting tool for international programmers and buyers. It is the publication that allows all foreign industry agents to be updated with the Chilean offer.
The new Chilean films that will be released to the world in this 2020 trace the political, from the most recent social movements to more personal topics, reflecting on issues such as social exclusion, access to mental health and clandestine abortion, and also on friendship, passion for art and reunion. The catalog includes new films by renowned Chilean authors, such as José Luis Torres Leiva, Claudia Huaiquimilla and Elisa Eliash, shorts by Francisca Alegría and Sebastián Salfate, as well as exciting debut operas by Gaspar Antillo, Francina Carbonell and Alexandra Hyland.
The publication includes 97 new audiovisual works, distributed in 19 fiction feature films, 19 documentary feature films, 42 fiction short films - including two animated films - and 17 documentary short films, which represent the wide national offer available to the world. With productions directed by professionals with extensive experience and also by new talents, the catalog will circulate in the main markets and festivals, serving as a tool for the promotion and commercialization of productions of the year in our country.
In Chilean cinema, the framework where the personal is also political, has transcended the linear and individual hierarchies forms of production towards collective and group , where we see more and more women behind the camera, where questions and how images are generated are constantly changing. This catalog highlights the validity of these questions and positions cinema as a meeting place and as a bridge to the other.
The editorial message of the catalog reflects on the latest global events of the pandemic and the push towards profound social transformations, investigating how the Chilean audiovisual community has managed to stay work together during different and challenging contexts. The design of the catalog cover, which brings together the faces of the directors of the 97 films without categories or hierarchies, echoes the central message: UNION. The plot of colors generates the sensation of a universe full of richness and complexities, of fades and shadows, but that finally coincide in the common point of finding clarity within an audiovisual choral story.
Constanza Arena, executive director of CinemaChile, explains the relevance of our catalog: “Our international catalog of Chilean cinema is an annual publication that has been in existence for 10 years, and that over the years has established itself as the programmers' work tool , directors of international festivals and buyers from all over the world. It is also the work tool of the CinemaChile team, on which we base our meetings with the main actors of the international industry, sharing key information on the new Chilean films available for the current year. We are proud to be able to give this space both to works by renowned directors and to the new authors of short films that are starting their film career. A wonderful creative coexistence reflected in these pages, which arouses the curiosity of curators from all over the world, and who hope to discover here the next famous authors of this country as rich in cinema as Chile is. ”
CinemaChile is the sector brand of ProChile that promotes Chilean films (fiction, documentary, animation, virtual reality) and series at festivals & markets. We work for the international positioning and growth of audiovisual production from Chile.
