CINEMACHILE’S QUICK LOOK AT SAN SEBASTIÁN 2021: PRODUCERS AND PROJECTS YOU CAN’T MISS!

CINEMACHILE’S QUICK LOOK AT SAN SEBASTIÁN 2021: PRODUCERS AND PROJECTS YOU CAN’T MISS!

With support from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, six Chilean producers are at San Sebastian to expand the horizons for their audiovisual projects; a compendium of works that include horror and comedy films, auteur, dramas and historical series.

In this note we will give you an overview of some of the outstanding projects that are currently looking for alliances in order to carry out their development and reach completion, as well as the names of the producers who will define the future of our cinema!

  • Sandra Arriagada (Femástica Films): This actress, journalist, and screenwriter has worked in the dramatization production departments of four Chilean channels, specializing in comedies for TV. She is currently working on the production of horror films, which include feature films such as Final Contagium (Domiziano Cristopharo, 2020), a fiction feature film addressing contingent themes, which talks about an experimental virus created by a scientist in Chile. Now, she's coming to San Sebastian with Muertas Vivas, produced by Lucio Rojas, a post-production film looking for a world premiere.
  • Roberto Doveris (Girl Boy Films): he is the director of Las Plantas (2015), his first fiction feature film which won the Generation 14Plus Award at the Berlinale and a mention from the youth jury at the festival. He is a producer of El Principe (2019) a co-production between Chile, Argentina, and Belgium that premiered at the Venice Film Festival; Victima Potencial (2018) by director Nicolás Gúzman, which also had an international premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Now, he's arriving in San Sebastian with Proyecto Fantasma, his second feature film as a director, a fiction and horror comedy that is in the post-production stage and searching for festivals.
  • Carolina Adriazola (Mitómana Productions): She has made several short and feature films that offer portraits of deep socio-political issues, from discrimination to social class inequality. Some of the best known among these are Harley Queen (2019); Il siciliano (2017) and Mitómana (2009), co-directed with José Luis Sepúlveda. In this version of San Sebastian, she is promoting Black Clouds, a work in development that is currently looking for international co-producers.
  • Nicolas Acuña (Promocine): Undoubtedly one of the most important directors and producers of series in the country, he recently produced Inés del alma mía (RTVE, Boomerang TV and Chilevisión, 2020), a historical drama, which has had great international success in both Spain and Chile. He is now at San Sebastian with La memoria del algodón, produced by Paula Sánchez, a work of historical fiction that is in script writing stage and looking for European co-producers.
  • Pablo Calisto (Equeco): He is a producer with Equeco, where he has produced works by emerging directors with fresh and irreverent authorial voices, such as Las Cosas Simples (Álvaro Anguita, 2015) and La Mentirita Blanca (Tomas Alzamora, 2017). He is currently producing Historia y Geografia, the third film by Bernardo Quesney, which is in postproduction and coming to San Sebastián to seek out sales agents. Historia y Geogrfia has also been selected for the next edition of Guadalajara Construye.
  • Giancarlo Nasi (Quijote Films) has extensive experience within the industry, producing more than ten feature films in his career, the best known of which include El Hombre del Futuro (Felipe Ríos, 2019), Lina de Lima (María Paz González, 2019), and Blanco en Blanco (Théo Court, 2019), the last of which won the Award for Best Director in the Orizzonti Section of the Venice Film Festival. He is participating in the San Sebastián Co-Production Forum with Sarah, from Puerto Rican director Álvaro Aponte.
