First stop: Alfredo Castro presents KARNAWAL at the Málaga Film Festival
“After a year and 3 months in lockdown, to me it’s a luxury to be here. I’m very grateful for this invitation and I thank Juan Pablo (Félix, director of Karnawal) and all our colleagues for this beautiful film that salvages the ancestral values of our Peoples.”
With those words, Alfredo Castro invited audiences in Malaga to see the premiere of international co-production Karnawal, (Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Norway).
Following a friday filled with interviews, an afternoon press conference, and night-time a red carpet, the premiere of this potent film marks the in-situ return of Chilean cinema at international festivals, led by an emblematic ambassador of our industry: Alfredo Castro.
The actor is also the protagonist of the Spanish drama The Consequences by Claudia Pinto, where he shares the screen with renowned Spanish-Colombian actress Juana Acosta, and which will premiere on June 11th in Málaga. Second destination: Homage to Alfredo Castro in Toulouse starting June 9th
In March of this year, Toulouse presented a program of 35 films virtually with 6 Chilean films, which also include a grand homage to Alfredo Castro. Now the event returns in-person, beginning on June 9th. In this new edition, Castro will be on the ground to talk with French audiences about his expansive career and his diverse films and collaborations, exhibiting Tony Manero and My Tender Matador, which is March took away four recognitions: Audience Award, a Special Mention from the Jury for his acting, the Cine + Award, and Special Mention by the CCAS Award judges. Alfredo also received
Special Mention from the Jury for Karnawal, which will be screened again in Toulouse.

After many months, the theaters in Toulouse will also project the most applauded and acclaimed Chilean films from the first, virtual round of the festival.
The program includes: the documentaries that took home the Signis Award, The Sky is Red by Francina Carbonell, Quien dice patria dice muerte, Todos caminamos; Ema by Pablo Larrain; Río Sagrado by Nicole Ellena; and Some Beasts by Jorge Riquelme.
Third milestone: White on White premiere in virtual cinemas in Chile
The month of Alfredo Castro continues with the virtual theater premiere of White on White (Theo Court), available via the VOD platform of Matucana 100 and Punto Play in all of Chile. Produced by Quijote Films and distributed by Storyboard Media, the film premiered in Venice in 2019, where it obtained the award for Best Director in the Orizzonti section, among other awards.
Since its premiere, Court’s third film has dazzled audiences with the powerful ways in which it approaches Latin American genocide, its visual potency, and its acting subtleties.
