The new catalogue of Chilean series, released today in the context of the French encounter MIPCOM 2021, demonstrates that the audiovisual powerhouse in Chile crosses formats and genres; our film and television industries interconnect with one another through the innovative perspectives of their creators.
The publication includes 54 series in total: 19 finished series — among which 8 are documentary projects, 7 fiction, and 4 animation — and 35 projects still in development, including 30 fiction projects, 3 documentaries, and 2 animation projects.
In the catalogue, you’ll be able to check out exclusive material from the new projects by renowned directors like Andrés Wood and Julio Jorquera (News of a Kidnapping), Rodrigo Sepúlveda (Matadero Franklin), Dominga Sotomayor (GLADYS), Juan Pablo Sallato (Freed), and Guillermo Helo (They Don't Want to See Us), among many others.
71 national production houses form part of the publication, including 16 international co-productions, which will soon arrive on the most important streaming and web platforms in the world. Participating are the most outstanding series of the year, including Los Prisioneros (Parox) and They Don’t Want to See Us (Altirosapiens), which had their world premieres at the latest edition of Iberseries, as well as the highly anticipated series Ines of My Soul (PROMOCINE) and La vida terminada (BTF Media).
The themes of the series in the new catalogue intersect Chile’s recent history and that of the world, in which we see stories inspired by the pandemic lockdowns (Enlaces, Mi papá es un inútil, De Vivalldis y Pavarotti, Insomne), to the impact of the feminist movement (They Don’t Want to See Us, La vida de nosotras, Chilenas en lucha, Disidentes), delving into the revindication of Indigenous Peoples’ rights (Mapuche, Ancestral Secret), and the Latin American identity (Qué dice Latinoamérica, Mitos y leyendas de Peñaflor, Globitos y viñetas), as well as the environmental crisis and education (Más allá de las olas, Los fantásticos viajes de Ruka, Lyn & Babas).
The publication includes diverse series that participated in the 2020 national fiction series pitch, a training encounter organized by CinemaChile TV for emerging producers. We can see what’s new for series like the historical thriller Dubois by César González, the tragicomedy Frankie by Rodrigo Suzarte and Sebastián Escalona, the crime thriller Agua by María Paz Eberhard and Feisal Sukni, the feminist action series Zorroridad by Daniela Pérez, and the true crime drama Intocable by Francisco Hervé, Moisés Sepúlveda, and Daniela Raviola.
The new series proposals in the catalogue demonstrate a clear trend by their Chilean authors toward innovation and breaking barriers, with regard to their formats as well as their content. Evident is the increase in genre and science-fiction proposals, with stories based on novels by Isabel Allende, Gabriel García Marquez, Francisco Ortega, and Simón Soto they draw a connection between literature and fiction; in addition to five web series that experiment with virtuality to reach new spectators.
The new Chilean International TV Catalogue also demonstrates the close relationship between the Chilean industry and the rest of the world, where directors from countries like Colombia, Spain, and the United States, among many others, have worked shoulder-to-shoulder with our producers, comprising a total of 16 international co-productions.
This catalogue will be distributed starting today at the main international markets and circuits for series content for the next 24 months. Discover it here!
