BUSAN FILM FESTIVAL WELCOMES THREE OF THE MOST APPLAUDED CHILEAN FILMS OF THIS YEAR

BUSAN FILM FESTIVAL WELCOMES THREE OF THE MOST APPLAUDED CHILEAN FILMS OF THIS YEAR

The mole agent, La Verónica and My Tender Matador will have their Asian premieres at the Busan Film Festival, with stories about being old, hyperconnection and the adaptation of one of the most famous novels of Chile.

CinemaChile, ProChile's sector brand, will be present for the second consecutive year in the Asian Content & Film Market, expanding business opportunities for Chilean cinema and promoting competing films together with a delegation of 2 Chilean producers.

Asia is eager to see the films that come from Chile and that will arrive at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the largest festival of its kind in Asia.

From October 21st to the 30th, the three Chilean films in competition will be screened in the official selection of the festival, after an important circuit of festivals round the world.

Films Coming to Busan

The Chilean competitor for the Goya Award (Spain), The Mole Agent, by the brilliant Maite Alberdi, continues its international journey after its successful european premiere at the San Sebastian Festival, and goes to Asia to tell the moving story of an octogenarian amateur detective, that goes on an incredible mission inside an asylum.

Its most recent recognition was the Audience Award for Best European Film (co-produced by Chile, USA, Germany, Holland, Spain) in San Sebastián and was recently cataloged by The Hollywood Reporter as “a refreshing and beautifully made film. With a moving structure in a narrative development with a bright eye, and a detailed description of each character ”.

Leo Medel's cinema also continues to cross borders with his experimental proposal La Verónica, a film starring the already renowned actress Mariana Di Girolamo (Ema). As part of the World Cinema competition, it brings to the screen a story told only in close-ups, exploring the universal and incomprehensible of the human face, and which was also recently premiered in San Sebastián.

Finally, one of the films that generated the most excitement this year: My Tender Matador by Rodrigo Sepúlveda, with the impressive performance of Alfredo Castro as “La loca del Frente”, inspired by the only novel written by Pedro Lemebel. Set on the eve of the attack on Augusto Pinochet in 1986, it transits between melodrama and political thriller, and narrates in 93 minutes the love story between "La loca del Frente" and Carlos, a member of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front. The film arrives in Busan after being part of the Giornate degli Autor section in Venice and its national preview of 200 thousand people who enjoyed the film from their homes.

Asian Content and Film Market

The Busan Film Festival is the most important in Asia, recognized as the first international film festival in Korea, a contest that strives to promote young talents and that in the past has already led to Chilean authors, such as Blanco en blanco, by Theo Court and El principe, by Sebastián Muñoz. Together with the Festival, the Asian Content and Film Market is held, which this year will take place between October 26 and 28, online.

CinemaChile, ProChile's sector brand, will participate for the second consecutive year in the event, this time with a virtual stand and a delegation of 2 producers: Ignacio Ruiz and Diego Rougier. The goal: to expand business opportunities. In addition, CinemaChile in alliance with the international program EAVE - TIES THAT BIND co-organizes exclusive talks between European, Chilean and Asian producers, analyzing successful case studies, incentives in the various Asian countries and generating ties between producers.
