Films Coming to Busan
The Chilean competitor for the Goya Award (Spain), The Mole Agent, by the brilliant Maite Alberdi, continues its international journey after its successful european premiere at the San Sebastian Festival, and goes to Asia to tell the moving story of an octogenarian amateur detective, that goes on an incredible mission inside an asylum.
Its most recent recognition was the Audience Award for Best European Film (co-produced by Chile, USA, Germany, Holland, Spain) in San Sebastián and was recently cataloged by The Hollywood Reporter as “a refreshing and beautifully made film. With a moving structure in a narrative development with a bright eye, and a detailed description of each character ”.
Leo Medel's cinema also continues to cross borders with his experimental proposal La Verónica, a film starring the already renowned actress Mariana Di Girolamo (Ema). As part of the World Cinema competition, it brings to the screen a story told only in close-ups, exploring the universal and incomprehensible of the human face, and which was also recently premiered in San Sebastián.
Finally, one of the films that generated the most excitement this year: My Tender Matador by Rodrigo Sepúlveda, with the impressive performance of Alfredo Castro as “La loca del Frente”, inspired by the only novel written by Pedro Lemebel. Set on the eve of the attack on Augusto Pinochet in 1986, it transits between melodrama and political thriller, and narrates in 93 minutes the love story between "La loca del Frente" and Carlos, a member of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front. The film arrives in Busan after being part of the Giornate degli Autor section in Venice and its national preview of 200 thousand people who enjoyed the film from their homes.
