Chilean producers join the renewed edition of MIPCancun Online 2020

Chilean producers join the renewed edition of MIPCancun Online 2020

Starting tomorrow and through November 20th, a new edition of the TV market MIPCancun will be carried out on a powerful online platform. The event, which commonly takes place in the city of the same name located on the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), brings together the global media and entertainment world, gathering the most influential buyers, producers, development executives, and distributors of the international TV industry and other platforms. The goal? To promote the exchange of ideas and networks, generate sales, pin down meetings and streamings, and turn opportunities into lasting business. Here, the participation of outstanding Chilean professionals has been boosted with support from the Ministry of Culture, the Arts and Heritage (MINCAP) and CinemaChileTV, a subsidiary brand of ProChile.

Thus, eleven Chilean production houses — and their respective representatives — will exhibit their most promising and most recent projects. Of this group, five producers are backed by the Support Program for Participation in International Markets from the Council of Art and the Audiovisual Industry (CAIA, in Spanish) belonging to MINCAP. They are Carola Fuentes of La Ventana Cine, Jorge Said of Millenium Monde, Sebastián Freund of Rizoma Films, Francisco Greene of Suroeste, and Jaime Herrera of The Magic Factory Productions.

What will Chile be showing at MIPCancun 2020?

Our country’s audiovisual work hasn’t stopped despite all the difficulties resulting from the pandemic, and production houses are currently elaborating interesting projects in search of resources for their development or finalization. At MIPCancun, some of this new series content will be exhibited.

One is Ancestral Secret by José Manuel Loyola, a non-fiction series in development and in search of co-production, which Carola Fuentes will present at MIPCancun as part of her briefcase.

Jorge Said will do the same with Las últimas tribus (“The Last Tribes”), and the development of its third season, directed by Said himself, which requires co-producers. On his part, Freund will participate in MIPCancun with LOGIA: El secreto de la cuarta carabela by Alejandro Fernández Almendras, a miniseries in development seeking exhibition platforms.

Meanwhile, Greene will seek agreements for the production entitled Frontera, directed by Oscar Godoy, a crime drama in development that requires financing. Herrera will promote La grande tata toro by Rubén Miranda, an animation series currently in post-production and seeking sales agents.

CinemaChile strengthens its presence at  MIPCancun

The relevance of the encounter and the big opportunities for independent projects drove CinemaChile’s participation for the second time, in order to strengthen promotion for this year’s series content, which has flourished in other markets, such as Conecta Fiction (Spain) and Mipcom (France), allowing for the conclusion of successful productions, as is the case of Inés of My Soul (a co-production between TVE, Boomerang Television, and Chilevisión, directed by Chile’s Nicolás Acuña and Alejandro Bazzano) and of Dignity (a co-production between Invercine & Wood, Amazon Prime Video, Mega, and Germany company Joyn).

Likewise, CinemaChilleTV will be promoting its 2020 International TV Catalogue through a virtual stand. The publication includes versatile and universal stories told through various formats that have made our country stand out in the industry.
