The series directed by the filmmakers of the documentary “Chicago Boys” stars in our new edition Tuesday of Chilean Series

Starting today until next Tuesday, September 1st we are sharing with you "¿Por qué en mi jardín?” (Why in my garden?) the Award-winning documentary series that delves into the stories of communities facing the imminent installation of productive industry; mega-projects that will impact the localities where they will be built.

Directed by Carola Fuentes and Rafael Valdeavellano, the series portrays the reality of hundreds of Chileans who have seen their quality of life threatened by the arrival of industrial projects in their neighborhoods, opening questions about the community implications of the country’s so-called development and growth.

Each episode shows the actions that the affected populations take to safeguard and protect their rights against the invaders. In turn, it seeks to understand those who defend the need to install these controversial projects.

¿Por qué en mi jardín? explores these two points of view, allowing the audience to generate their own stance in the face of these issues. The various megaprojects that are involved in each episode include the nuclear reactor in the sector of La Reina (Santiago), the wind farm in Chiloé (southern city), communities organized in front of the installation of cellular antennas, the Punilla reservoir, the installation of prisons in Til Til and Alhué, among others.

Produced by La Ventana Cine, the series was developed thanks to the CORFO and National Television Council (CNTV) funds and won the awards for Best Documentary and Grand Prize for Audiovisual Excellence of  the Alberto Hurtado University.

The production company La Ventana Cine has 14 years of experience, more than a thousand hours of audiovisual production, and more than 100 hours broadcasted on open television for prime time. They have made several productions for foreign channels such as PBS, Univision, Al Jazeera, and CNN and co-produced with Scotland, Colombia, and Germany.

In 2015 they released their first documentary feature Chicago Boys, in which its directors Fuentes and Valdeavellano won the award for Best Director at the Sanfic11 Film Festival; Pedro Sienna Award for Best Documentary (2016); Nuestra América award at the DOCSMX Festival (2016) and the award for Best Documentary at the Sunscreen Festival (2017).

Their productions include the documentary series “Maestro”s (2018); “10 Chileans who are changing the world”” (2017);  “Somos Los niños” (2019) and “Chileans changing the climate” (2019). Also, the journalistic series “Estuve ahí” (2020); “Misión Encubierta” (2018) and “What do you eat?” (2017-2015). They also produced the documentary feature “Nae pasaran”, co-produced with the BBC in Scotland (2017).

Currently, they produce the second season of the series "Maestros" and the documentary series "Ancestral Secret" as well as feature-length documentaries "Breaking the Brick", "Los raros", "Three Stubborn Men" and "Cocacolonization".
