Today “Tuesdays of Chilean Series” begins, just a click away

At CinemaChile, we believe it’s important to act in solidarity with all of those who remain in quarantine (obligatory or mostly voluntary) at a national and international level, and connecting audiences with Chilean films and series is a way to keep in touch during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Just over a month ago, we inaugurated the “Thursdays of Chilean Cinema” section, where we’ve had the privilege to reveal five feature films and five shorts so far, providing them a new space for worldwide viewing.

Today, we want to announce a new section on CinemaChile entitled Tuesdays of Chilean Series, where we seek to highlight new and old series productions by liberating the first episodes of these shows for one week.

In order to kick off this new space, we’ll be screening Gen Mishima, a series produced by Leonora González and Sergio Gándara from Parox, directed by Rodrigo Susarte and Álvaro Solar. This production was broadcast on TVN in 2008, drawing attention with its themes surrounding genetics, ideology, and cybernetics.

Over the course of eight episodes, with a duration of 50 minutes each, the series focuses its narrative on a young journalist and writer, Ignacio Maiakovsky, as he investigates young graduates from the controversial Instituto Porvenir (“Future Institute”) for super gifted children, unveiling a dark plan involving social genetics, mutations, and religion.

Starring Cristián Carvajal, Celine Raymond, Fernanda Urrejola, and Diego Casanueva, this mysterious thriller combines elements of science fiction and dystopia, seeking to question the influence that technology exerts over humanity.

The series was funded by the National Television Council (CNTV) and achieved nominations for the 2009 Altazor Award for Best Screenplay and Best Direction. Because of its aesthetic particularities and its transgressive themes, we believe Gen Mishima is the right choice to begin Tuesdays of Chilean Series.
