In March, we inaugurated a new section with the sole objective of providing company and a bit of an escape to those of you staying at home, taking care of your health and everyone else\u2019s. Today, six weeks later, we\u2019re happy and thankful for the great reception this initiative has had, and we\u2019re inviting you to a new edition of \u201cThursdays of Chilean Cinema\u201d. It\u2019s a space where we promote national feature films and shorts in pursuit of connecting our cinema with the world. During the next seven days, we\u2019ll be accompanied by <\/span>The Passion of Michelangelo<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Non Castus<\/i><\/b>, both of which premiered in the last decade and will be available to be viewed by global audiences for free.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Passion of Michelangelo<\/i><\/b> was directed by Esteban Larra\u00edn and it\u2019s a co-production with Argentina and France, which premiered in 2012 at the Rome Film Festival.\u00a0 Starring Sebasti\u00e1n Ayala, it\u2019s based on a true story and takes place in 1983, when Miguel \u00c1ngel Poblete, a marginalized teen, claims to have visions of the Virgin Mary.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to an interview with Larra\u00edn by <\/span>Bio Bio<\/span><\/a>, the most difficult part of constructing the story was \u201ccreating a character with soul that wasn\u2019t a caricature. That was my main focus. The bigger challenge was not showing the obvious, that\u2019s why I investigated, I informed myself, and I wanted to show the lesser known side of the story.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among its most notable recognitions are the Special Jury Prize and Award for Best Screenplay from the Festroia International Film Festival, Portugal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Standing out among the multiple jobs Larra\u00edn has realized is writing the TV miniseries <\/span>Mary & Mike<\/i><\/b> (Invercine&Wood), of which he\u2019s also co-director and co-producer. He\u2019s currently developing the fiction series <\/span>Casa de campo<\/i><\/b>, based on the novel by Jos\u00e9 Donoso, and the feature films <\/span>Nicanor y el Cristo Volador<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>La caza del hombre<\/i><\/b>, about the capture of former Nazi, German criminal Paul Sch\u00e4fere, leader of <\/span>Colonia Dignidad<\/span><\/i> in Chile.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
