The 34th version of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), one of the most important events for the Latin American audiovisual sector, will take place from March 20th to the 27th. There, a large delegation will participate in representation of our country, in competitive sections as well industry spaces.<\/p>\n
One of the films that figures in the program is The Mole Agent by Maite Alberdi, which will have its Latin American premiere in the Iberoamerican Documentary Film competition at the Mexican festival. Previously the film had a successful premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was applauded at every projection and recognized by international directors.<\/p>\n
The film\u2019s narrative centers around a private detective who must investigate the case of a client, who needs to know how her mother is being treated inside the retirement home where she lives. The only way to solve the mission is with a \u201cmole\u201d, for which she hires Sregio, an 83-year-old man who has never in his life worked as an undercover agent, and who turns himself into a new resident at the home. There, he must balance his professional mission with the new relationships that he begins to build, which commit him to the life of the establishment.<\/p>\n
The Mole Agent has been highly visible and of great interest internationally since it began, being a co-production between Chile, the U.S., Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany, an exceptional case for the documentary genre.<\/p>\n
In the words of its director, the film shows how \u201cwe\u2019ve encouraged isolation and non-integration of senior citizens, and I believe that\u2019s key in understanding why we have a debt to the pension system, but the problematic goes beyond economic [issues]; it\u2019s a society that doesn\u2019t want to grow old, that doesn\u2019t want to confront old age, nor does it want to relate with older people or anything that is dependent.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to this film, parallel sections of the event include the participation of Piola by Luis Alejandro P\u00e9rez; Spider by Andr\u00e9 Wood; Especulaciones sobre J.R. by Fernando Vergara; and The Cordillera of Dreams by Patricio Guzm\u00e1n.<\/p>\n
