Cannes\u00a0(France) will be the gathering point for the most influential representatives and executives of digital creative industries during a new version of Mipcom<\/strong>, the world\u2019s most important TV contents market, set to take place from October 14th<\/sup> through 17th<\/sup><\/strong>. Chile shall attend the event with a delegation of nine companies that will show the world the quality and talent of our national industry. These will have the on-site support of CinemaChile<\/strong>, ProChile<\/strong>\u2019s sectorial brand, with the objective of generating new business opportunities. Both Mipcom and MipJunior<\/strong> \u2013which will take place on October 12th<\/sup> and 13th<\/sup> <\/strong>\u2013 are events oriented towards meetings with television channels and broadcasters seeking to buy and sell new programs and audiovisual formats<\/p>\n

On one side, MIPJunior<\/strong> is considered the world\u2019s most relevant children\u2019s entertainment industry gathering, where the Chilean participants are producers Cecilia G\u00f3mez<\/strong> and Melissa Vega<\/strong> in representation of the Chilean production company Dinogorila<\/strong>, with the animated projects Hola Flinko<\/em><\/strong> and Locos Lab<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After that, and during the four days of Mipcom\u2019s conferences, screenings, networking activities, and a market section aimed towards facilitating audiovisual deals, another eight Chilean production companies will be promoting their best completed and developing projects, seeking distribution and new partners.<\/p>\n

One of the high points of Chile\u2019s presence at Cannes will be the launch of Dignidad<\/em><\/strong>, a series co-produced by the Chilean production company Invercine&Wood, along with the Chilean National Television Council (CNTV) and the German production company Storyhouse. Created by Mar\u00eda Elena Wood<\/strong> and Patricio Pereira<\/strong> and directed by Julio Jorquera<\/strong>, the fiction series is based around the lawyer that uncovered the Colonia Dignidad case in 1997 and was shot in Villa Baviera. Its cast includes German actor G\u00f6tz Otto, from films such as Schindler\u2019s List<\/em> and The Fall<\/em>, in the role of Paul Sch\u00e4fer. The co-production \u2013which will be broadcast in Chile through Mega\u2014 will be the first international original series on Joyn, Discovery and ProSiebenSat.1\u2019s German OTT media service.<\/p>\n

Another of Chile\u2019s great innovations at Mipcom will be the inclusion of the National Television Council (CNTV)<\/strong> in the promotion of Chilean contents, given the opportunity for opening co-production options for the directors it works with and the dissemination of several of the television projects that have received grants from the CNTV Fund.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a very powerful differentiating element: the CNTV Fund exists because of and for audience\u2019s benefit, and we believe that it transmits universal values,\u201d says the president of the National Television Fund, Catalina Parot. <\/strong>She adds: \u201cThe diffusion of these series is also a way to show Chile\u2019s formidable natural beauty and incredible geographical and cultural diversity throughout the world through audiovisual productions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since Mipcom is a market that must be attended each year in order to both maintain contacts and open up new markets, Chile\u2019s participation includes five producers that will attend thanks to the support of the Ministry of<\/strong> Cultures, the Arts, and Patrimony<\/strong>, through its Support Program for Participation in International Markets<\/strong>, which is part of the Council for Art and the Audiovisual Industry (CAIA). <\/strong>These producers are Sebasti\u00e1n Freund<\/strong> (president of the Film and Television Producers Association, APCT),\u00a0Sergio G\u00e1ndara<\/strong>, Patricio Ochoa<\/strong>, Carola Fuentes<\/strong> and Mat\u00edas Amo\u00e7ain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Amo\u00e7ain<\/strong> will attend in representation of Fabula TV<\/strong> with two series produced by Pablo and Juan de Dios Larra\u00edn: Santa Mar\u00eda, <\/em><\/strong>which is directed by Ram\u00f3n Salazar and is currently seeking financing; and La Jaur\u00eda, <\/em><\/strong>directed by Luc\u00eda Puenzo, which is seeking financing and buyers.\u00a0 Fuentes<\/strong> will attend the event on behalf of La Ventana Cine<\/strong> with three developing projects directed Rafael Valdeavellano: Misi\u00f3n ant\u00e1rtica<\/em><\/strong>, Tres hombres porfiados <\/em><\/strong>and Los raros, <\/em><\/strong>co-directed by Valdeavellano and Fuentes. Ochoa<\/strong> will bring three productions in representation of La Merced Producciones<\/strong>: Chivo negro <\/em><\/strong>by Max Morales and Antonia Renard, Historias clandestinas <\/em><\/strong>by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez, and El encuentro\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>by filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, G\u00e1ndara <\/strong>will travel to Europe representing Parox<\/strong>, with three projects under his wing: Civilizaci\u00f3n <\/em><\/strong>by Diego Breit, which requires financing; Tristeza <\/em><\/strong>by Rodrigo Susarte, which is currently in development stages; and Puente de plata<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>directed by Marcela Said, which is seeking financing.\u00a0Freund<\/strong> will represent Rizoma<\/strong> with three projects that require co-producers: La cuarta carabela <\/em><\/strong>by Juan Ignacio Sabatini and Nicol\u00e1s Acu\u00f1a; Winnipeg <\/em><\/strong>by Alejandro Fern\u00e1ndez Almendras; and El ni\u00f1o llora <\/em><\/strong>by Lucio Rojas.<\/p>\n

They will be joined by Mar\u00eda Elena Wood<\/strong> and Macarena Cardone<\/strong> from Invercine&Wood<\/strong>, who in addition to presenting Dignidad<\/em> will also present Se\u00f1or y Se\u00f1ora P<\/em><\/strong>. <\/em>and Los Jaivas: Todos Juntos<\/em><\/strong>. Other members of the delegation are Villano<\/strong> producer Juan Pablo Sallato<\/strong> with fiction projects Libre<\/em><\/strong> and La Cacer\u00eda<\/em><\/strong> (second season); Viviana S\u00e1ez<\/strong> and Gonzalo Sabath<\/strong> from VG Audiovisual<\/strong>, who will promote their fiction series Las aventuras de Mila<\/em><\/strong>; and representatives for the investment company Screen Capital<\/strong>, Joyce Zylberberg <\/strong>and Tatiana Emden<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What is CNTV?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Television Council (CNTV) is the organization that regulates the functioning of Chilean television through institutional policies that orient, stimulate, and regulate the activity of the actors involved in the television phenomenon. It works hand in hand with technological and sociocultural changes, in a context of growing internationalization.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CNTV Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Television Council provides Chile\u2019s most important subsidy for television production. Through its CNTV Fund, it seeks to promote, finance, or subsidize the production, transmission, or diffusion of high-quality programs that respond to cultural, national, or regional interests, and which are capable of developing diverse contents that reflect the diversity of current Chilean society: programs that provide democratic values or increase the audience\u2019s levels of information, education, or formation. It finances contents is categories such as fiction; non-fiction; historical, regional, local and community series and miniseries; preschool (ages 3-6); children (ages 6-12); and new seasons already financed by the fund. Both independent production companies and Chilean stations are eligible for these funds.<\/p>\n

An Opportunity to Co-Produce with Chile<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the objective of promoting the growth and development of projects financed by the CNTV Fund, starting from this year, all of the aforementioned categories can be applied to under the \u201cinternational co-production\u201d status.<\/p>\n

The project\u2019s contents must be relevant to Chilean audiences and must demonstrate potential for internationalization. Applicants may participate through an association between one or more Chilean co-producers and one or more international co-producers, producers and\/or television stations. Broadcasting rights in Chile must be owned by the Chilean co-producers, but international broadcasting rights may be negotiated amongst co-producers.<\/p>\n
