From September 30th to October 6th in the city of Biarritz (southeast France), the 28th version of Festival Biarritz Am\u00e9rique Latine will take place, an event dedicated to promoting Latin American cinema and culture, in addition to opening possibilities for distribution and co-production. Chile will be represented by several films in competitive and non-competitive categories.<\/p>\n

Participating in the Fiction Competition is Song Without a Name<\/em><\/strong> by Melina Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, which participated this year in the prestigious Directors\u2019 Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n

The film is produced by Le\u00f3n, along with Mike J. Whittier<\/strong> and national director of photography Inti Briones<\/strong>, who also performed in that role. Also selected is Land of Ashes<\/em><\/strong>, first film by Sof\u00eda Quir\u00f3s<\/strong>, which also participated in Cannes 2019 in the Critics\u2019 Week feature film competition. Land of Ashes<\/em><\/strong> is a co-production between Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, and France, whose cinematography was done by Chilean DP Francisca S\u00e1ez.<\/p>\n

“Aicha”, by Vinko Tomicic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Participating in the Short Film Competition are Aicha<\/em><\/strong> by Vinko Tomicic<\/strong>, produced by \u00c1lvaro Manzano<\/strong> and Francisco Hevia<\/strong>, which premiered internationally at the 2019 Guadalajara Film Festival, and Hector<\/em><\/strong>, directed by Victoria Giesen Carvajal<\/strong> and produced by Rebeca Guti\u00e9rrez<\/strong> of Pinda Producciones, which premiered internationally at the Berlin Film Festival.<\/p>\n

Screening in the Documentary category is Lemebel<\/em><\/strong> by Joanna Reposi Garibaldi<\/strong>, produced by Solita Films, which premiered internationally in the Panorama competition at the Berlinale, where it was granted the Teddy Award for Best LGBT+ themed Documentary.<\/p>\n

Participating in Focus Patagonia \u2014 a category that Biarritz website specifies is a \u201ccinematic selection of 10 films, accompanied by their directors, \u2026\u00a0 an invitation to discover Patagonia and accept losing North,\u201d \u2014 are the films The Pearl Button<\/em><\/strong> by Patricio Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong>, Rey<\/em><\/strong> by Niles Atallah<\/strong>, and The Wind Knows I\u2019m Coming Back Home<\/em><\/strong> by Jos\u00e9 Luis Torres Leiva<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To be exhibited outside of the competition is The Cordillera of Dreams<\/em><\/strong> by Patricio Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong>, a film that premiered in the non-competitive category at the Cannes Film Festival, Special Screenings, winning the L\u2019\u0152il d\u2019or (Golden Eye) for Best Documentary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
