The films in the running for this award are Jose Luis Torres Leiva\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vendra la Muerte y Tendra Tus Ojos, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andres Wood\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ara\u00f1a<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Chilean representative in the competition for the Goya and Academy Awards, which shall have its debut before Spanish audiences. In addition to this, two Chilean projects in development stages will form part of the Europe-Latin America Coproduction Forum.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&gt;&gt;&gt; With the on-site support of CinemaChile, a large delegation of professionals from the Chilean film industry will arrive at the festival in order to promote and secure new partners and business opportunities for their developing audiovisual projects. Four producers from this delegation will be attending the festival with the support of Ministry of Cultures, the Arts, and Patrimony, through its Attendance to International Markets program.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each year, the Chilean film industry shines at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the most important festival in Hispanic America, with a large selection of films and a robust delegation. And 2019 will be no exception: Chile will be one of the countries in the region with the largest presence at the Basque festival, with eight productions selected for multiple sections and two projects participating in the festival\u2019s industry area, which is called the Industry Club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSan Sebastian is one of the world\u2019s most important film festivals, and the interest that the festival\u2019s organizers have shown towards our participation as a country is an indication of the great moment that the Chilean film industry is going through. We will have four films competition, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ara\u00f1a<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is the Chilean ticket for the Oscars and the Goyas, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prince<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has just been awarded the Queer Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival, making a mark as the first Chilean film to receive an award in this category,\u201d says<\/span><b> Juan Carlos Silva, Sub-secretary of Cultures and the Arts.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authority of the <\/span><b>Ministry of Cultures, the Arts, and Patrimony<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also notes, \u201cAs in previous years, we are supporting various productions\u2019 participation through our support program for participation in international festivals. The audiovisual field continues to fully justify the Ministry of Cultures\u2019 support, and in that sense, instances such as these are very important occasions on which to show the great films that are being developed in our country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This participation will wrap up one of this year\u2019s best months for Chilean film, keeping in mind that in September alone there will have been seven international premieres at some of the season\u2019s most important festivals, such as Venice, Toronto, and San Sebastian.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CinemaChile\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">executive director, <\/span><b>Constanza Arena<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, highlights the enormous presence of the Chilean film industry at San Sebastian, assuring that \u201cthe industry\u2019s strength will also be demonstrated by the participation of 21 production companies and their over 40 projects in development stages, who will have meetings with the international film industry.\u201d With regards to what she identifies in the competing films and the subjects they address, she assures, \u201cThere\u2019s a very distinct point they all have in common: they all explore the subject of family, of new families, and the relationships that are generated in this area from the perspective of a couple, of a woman, of parents, children, and friends.\u201d She also adds, \u201cThe special confluence of established Chilean directors like Guzm\u00e1n, Wood or Larra\u00edn and emerging filmmakers who are already present in the Festival\u2019s most important competition sections, such as the Official Competition, New Directors, and Horizontes Latinos.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the front of the productions that are set to land in the Basque city is the latest fiction film by <\/span><b>Jos\u00e9 Luis Torres Leiva<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entitled <\/span><b><i>Vendr\u00e1 la muerta y tendr\u00e1 tus ojos<\/i><\/b><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which will be competing for the prestigious <\/span><b>Golden Shell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alongside 19 other feature-length films. The film was produced by <\/span><b>Catalina Vergara <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from <\/span><b>Globo Rojo Films<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and features performances by <\/span><b>Amparo Noguera and Julieta Figueroa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It narrates the story of two women who have shared an entire life together and are forced to come to terms with an illness that strikes one of them, who decides not to undergo any treatment. Together, they move to a cabin, where they will rediscover their love, strengthening their relationship while death awaits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>New Directors <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">section will include <\/span><b><i>Algunas Bestias<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by director and producer <\/span><b>Jorge Riquelme (Laberinto Films).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> With performances by <\/span><b>Paulina Garc\u00eda, Alfredo Castro, Consuelo Carre\u00f1o and Andrew Bargsted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the film will plunge spectators into the story of a family that disembarks on an uninhabited island in the south of Chile with the dream of building a hotel, and are held captive after the man who brought them there disappears. In the cold, with no water or any certainty of anything, their peaceful coexistence will come to an end, revealing the beasts that are hiding within the family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R0hrAALE0Y0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>In Horizontes Latinos, the film chosen to inaugurate the section is Patricio Guzman\u2019s latest film, <\/b><b><i>La Cordillera de los Sue\u00f1os<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a documentary produced by Market Chile and Atacama Productions. The synopsis <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reads: \u201cIn Chile, when the sun rises, it must climb hills, walls and mountain tops before reaching the last stone of the Andes Mountains. In my country, the mountains are everywhere. But for the Chilean citizens, they are unknown territory.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FHZ1HNt3OOw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This same space will also include the Spanish premiere of the film that will represent Chile in the race for the Oscars and the Goyas, <\/span><b><i>Ara\u00f1a<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by <\/span><b>Andr\u00e9s Wood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, produced by <\/span><b>Wood Producciones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with Magma Cine (Argentina) and Bossa Nova Films (Brazil). The film features leading performances by <\/span><b>Mercedes Mor\u00e1n and Marcelo Alonso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and narrates the story of In\u00e9s, Justo, and Gerardo, who form part of a nationalist group that wants to overthrow the Marxist government during the 70s. They form a love triangle and commit a political crime. Forty years later, Gerardo reappears. Ines will do whatever it takes to keep him from disclosing her and her husband\u2019s past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tW2XKve648c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Sebastian Mu\u00f1oz\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">film <\/span><b><i>The Prince<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was also selected and will arrive to San Sebastian directly from <\/span><b>Venice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with its <\/span><b>Queer Lion Award. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film was produced by <\/span><b>El Otro Film and Ni\u00f1a Ni\u00f1o Films<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in co-production with Le Tiro Films (Argentina) and Be Revolution Films (Belgium). With performances by <\/span><b>Juan Carlos Maldonado, Alfredo Castro and Gast\u00f3n Pauls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, its synopsis is as follows:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Bernardo, Chile, 1970. After a night of heavy drinking, Jaime, a solitary and narcissistic man in his twenties, stabs his best friend in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">friend in what appears to be an outburst of passion. In prison, he discovers affections and loyalties amidst an everyday life marked by violence<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oWVyMfAOqSY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After its acclaimed premieres at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, <\/span><b>Pablo Larrain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s film <\/span><b><i>Ema<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will arrive at <\/span><b>Perlak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the contest\u2019s most exclusive section. Produced by <\/span><b>Fabula <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and featuring lead performances by<\/span><b> Mariana Di Girolamo and Gael Garc\u00eda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the film narrates how after a serious accident that derails her family life and her marriage to a choreographer, Ema embarks on a crusade for personal liberation that turns her life into an incendiary drama about art, desire, and family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kPwXkr3F7VU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chilean-Argentinean coproduction <\/span><b><i>Shakti, <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">directed by <\/span><b>Martin Rejtman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will participate in the <\/span><b>Zabaltegi \u2013 Tabakalera <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">section. Produced by <\/span><b>Forastero and Un Puma (Argentina),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the film narrates the moment in which Federico decides to separate from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magda, but Magda wins out and Federico falls into a depressive pit. However, his life begins to change when he finds some potato <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">knishes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in his freezer, which his grandmother left him a few months before dying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Fiebre Austral<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by <\/span><b>Thomas Woodroffe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was selected for the <\/span><b>Nest Film Students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> space. The short film, which has already participated in-competition at Venice and Toronto, was produced by Rodrigo D\u00edaz from Brisa Producciones and features performances by Francisca Gavil\u00e1n, Nicol\u00e1s Sobarzo, and Roberto Villena.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its synopsis: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amanda, a lonely and complacent woman, lives with her son Daniel in the south of Chile. One day, a friend of Daniel\u2019s called Octavio is accidentally wounded while they are hunting in the forest. Amanda dresses his wound and discovers an addictive pleasure that comes from touching his wound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CHILEAN PROJECTS AT INDUSTRY DAYS\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Chilean projects were selected for the Europe &#8211; Latin America Coproduction Forum, which is dedicated to fostering productions in different stages of development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of them is <\/span><b><i>El Cardenal<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by <\/span><b>Benjamin \u00c1vila<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and produced by <\/span><b>Gabriela Sandoval and Carlos N\u00fa\u00f1ez <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from<\/span><b> Storyboard Media,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with <\/span><b>Argentina and Brazil<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The synopsis is as follows: After the 1973 military strike, Cardinal <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Silva Henr\u00edquez initiates an effort to help the victims that opposes his cautious attitude towards the regime\u2019s authorities. Little by little, he will get to know the brutal dictatorship he must stand up against.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second project is <\/span><b><i>Amor es el Monstruo<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by<\/span><b> Neto Villalobos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and produced by Chilean producer <\/span><b>Alejo Cris\u00f3stomo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from<\/span><b> Ceibita Films<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with <\/span><b>Costa Rica<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
