Ten years have passed since the birth\u00a0of\u00a0CinemaChile\u00a0, a public-private entity created by\u00a0ProChile\u00a0and\u00a0the Association\u00a0of\u00a0Motion Picture\u00a0and Television\u00a0Producers\u00a0(APCT\u00a0), a period which\u00a0has been in charge of bringing\u00a0all\u00a0the national film and television production beyond borders, representing as a brand the\u00a0audiovisual industry of our country;\u00a0the one that has grown by leaps and bounds, getting hundreds of prizes since 2009, selections\u00a0in class A festivals,\u00a0as well as financing and applause in international premieres.<\/p>\n

All these reasons prompted\u00a0CinemaChile\u00a0to create\u00a0a special\u00a0anniversary\u00a0celebration\u00a0to\u00a0account for the sustained growth that, particularly, fiction films\u00a0of our country have had,\u00a0approaching\u00a0the international audience\u00a0for the first\u00a0time.<\/p>\n

Constanza Arena,\u00a0executive\u00a0director\u00a0of\u00a0CinemaChile\u00a0tells us about the birth of\u00a0this initiative: “How did we select the 10 films that represent the best of Chilean cinema of the\u00a0last 10 years?\u00a0We decided to invite 10\u00a0international programmers,\u00a0of high prestige\u00a0and\u00a0curators\u00a0responsible for the most important festivals of world class\u00a0like Berlin, San Sebastian,\u00a0Sundance,\u00a0etc., who\u00a0joyfully accepted\u00a0choosing these films, voting\u00a0for one in each of the years of\u00a0CinemaChile’s\u00a0life.\u00a0This is how we came to this great program and\u00a0now\u00a0we are very happy to share it with the audience in theaters.\u00a0Our work has always been on another\u00a0level: in film markets, in hundreds of meetings, working in formal industry instances, and with professionals from the\u00a0film and television world.\u00a0However, we wanted to challenge ourselves and\u00a0go further: directly to the public, to those people who choose to go to the movies and decide to watch a Chilean movie\u00a0because they know it will be good\u00a0“.<\/p>\n

This selection\u00a0of films makes up\u00a0the\u00a0“Chilean Cinema Week”\u00a0which, since last week, is touring Europe. On Sunday\u00a0it arrived at\u00a0the\u00a0Golem\u00a0cinema\u00a0in Madrid,\u00a0with\u00a0Tando and the presence\u00a0of Paulina Garc\u00eda\u00a0(“Gloria”)\u00a0, Daniela Vega\u00a0(“Una Mujer Fantastica”)\u00a0, Antonia\u00a0Zegers\u00a0(“No”, “El Club”)\u00a0and Alfredo Castro\u00a0(“No”, “El Club”),\u00a0who\u00a0presented several of the titles and talked with the\u00a0public after the exhibitions.\u00a0And this\u00a0week it\u00a0will be Paris\u2019 turn\u00a0at the French Cinematheque, and\u00a0then\u00a0we\u2019ll travel\u00a0to Berlin\u00a0between June 20 and 23,\u00a0in the\u00a0mythical\u00a0Cine\u00a0Babylon.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0French Cinematheque will\u00a0open tomorrow this great show that\u00a0will be on the bill until Sunday, June\u00a016.\u00a0Here the presentations will be in charge of\u00a0the directors Fernando\u00a0Guzzoni\u00a0(“Jesus\u00a0“) and Sebasti\u00e1n Lelio\u00a0(“Gloria”, “Una Mujer Fantastica”),\u00a0who will\u00a0participate in a Q&A session with the attendees after each screening.\u00a0It should be noted that precisely two\u00a0programmers\u00a0of the\u00a0French Cinematheque,\u00a0Caroline\u00a0Maleville\u00a0and Bernard Payen, were part of the 10 professionals who selected\u00a0the titles of the “Chilean Film Week”.<\/p>\n

Selected ribbons<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All the films chosen\u00a0have had an important national and international tour, where they have achieved multiple recognitions,\u00a0both for the creative\/technical and acting team.\u00a0Among some of the distinctions awarded to these films are:<\/p>\n

La Nana<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was premiered in 2009 at the Sundance Film\u00a0Festival, where it received the Grand Jury Prize and a Special Jury Prize for actress Catalina Saavedra.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0From there, the film won more than twenty international awards, including the Col\u00f3n de Oro at the Ibero-American Film Festival of Huelva for Best Film, as well as Best Direction and Best Actress.\u00a0It also received the Critics Award and Best Actress at Festival de Cartagena de Indias, among many others;\u00a0was nominated for the Ariel Awards and was the first Chilean film nominated for the Golden Globes in the Best Film in Non-English Language category.<\/p>\n

The film\u00a0Lucia<\/em><\/strong>, released in 2010, won\u00a0the FIPRESCI prizes – Special Jury Prize – and the so-called \u00abDiscovery Award\u00a0of the French Criticism\u00bb\u00a0in Toulouse.\u00a0It\u00a0also won\u00a0prizes at the\u00a0Court-Bouillon\u00a0festival\u00a0in France, the first prize for Best International Feature Film at the Animation Festival\u00a0Baden, Switzerland;\u00a0the “Grand\u00a0Prix\u00a0Wooden\u00a0Wolf\u00a0Prize\u00a0“at the Estonian Tallinn animation festival, among many others.<\/p>\n

For its part,\u00a0the 2011 film\u00a0Violeta went to heaven <\/em><\/strong>received the Best Direction and Best Actress awards at the Huelva Film Festival;\u00a0the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance\u00a0Festival\u00a0and the Audience Award at\u00a0the Toulouse Festival.\u00a0In addition, Wood’s film was nominated for\u00a0the Goya Awards for Best\u00a0Ibero-American\u00a0Film.<\/p>\n

After its premiere in 2012, the film\u00a0No<\/em><\/strong>, was awarded a Phoenix Prize and a Platinum Award for Best Screenplay;\u00a0and it marked a milestone in the history of national cinema: in January 2013 it became the first\u00a0Chilean film to be nominated for Best Foreign Film.<\/p>\n

In 2013\u00a0the\u00a0movie\u00a0Gloria<\/em><\/strong> was released,\u00a0obtaining\u00a0the Silver Bear for Best\u00a0Actor given to Paulina Garc\u00eda, in addition to\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Various\u00a0Platinum Awards, including\u00a0Best\u00a0Latin\u00a0American Film, Best Female Performance, Best Screenplay and Best Direction.\u00a0Gloria<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0also won Best Ibero-American Film at\u00a0the\u00a0Ariel Awards and\u00a0was nominated for Best\u00a0Foreign Film at the\u00a0Independent\u00a0Spirit\u00a0Award.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Killing a Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0, released in 2014, won the Best Film Award in the\u00a0World\u00a0Cinema\u00a0category\u00a0of the Sundance Film\u00a0Festival\u00a0the same year as its premier, it also won the Grand Prix of Feature Film City of Lisbon, the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0most important of the\u00a0IndieLisboa\u00a0Festival\u00a0, in Portugal;\u00a0and the\u00a0Bigscreen\u00a0Critics\u00a0Award\u00a0at the Rotterdam Festival, among others.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Club<\/em><\/strong>, premiered in the Official Competition\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0of the Berlin Film Festival\u00a0and received the Silver Bear, Grand Prize of the Jury, in the German contest.\u00a0It also received the\u00a0Best Film\u00a0awards\u00a0at the Festival of\u00a0Havana,\u00a0four awards at the F\u00e9nix Awards ceremony;\u00a0it won Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the Mar del Plata Festival, three other awards at the Chicago Film Festival, four awards at the Cear\u00e1 Festival, and\u00a0many others.\u00a0In addition,\u00a0El Club<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0became the second Chilean film to be nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Film in Non-English Language.<\/p>\n

The feature film\u00a0Jesus<\/em><\/strong>, which\u00a0premiered in 2016, acquired great\u00a0recognition after receiving the Best Act\u00a0at the Torino Festival and also receiving\u00a0the Best Actor and Best Edition award at FICSUR.<\/p>\n

Released in 2017 at the\u00a0Berlinale,\u00a0A fantastic woman<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0received its first recognition in the German contest, winning the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay and also the\u00a0Teddy\u00a0Award. Then, the film won a series of awards at festivals such as San Sebasti\u00e1n, Lima and Havana;\u00a0and received the awards:\u00a0Independent\u00a0Spirit\u00a0to the Best\u00a0Foreign Film,\u00a0the\u00a0Goya Award for the Best Ibero-American Film, Ariel Award for the Best\u00a0Ibero-American Film;\u00a0and Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, Best Direction and Best\u00a0Filmmaking at the Pla\u00a0tino\u00a0Awards\u00a0.\u00a0In February 2018,\u00a0A fantastic woman<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0makes history in the national cinematography by getting an Oscar for Best Foreign\u00a0Film.<\/p>\n

In 2018\u00a0Too late<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to die young<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is released, a film that also\u00a0marked a milestone for\u00a0national cinema by winning the Golden Leopard for Best Direction at the Locarno\u00a0Film Festival, award that for the first time in the history of the contest was awarded to a woman,\u00a0being received by\u00a0the Chilean director\u00a0Dominga Sotomayor.\u00a0Since then, the film continued to receive multiple awards such as\u00a0the Best Direction and Best Photography awards at the Gij\u00f3n Festival (Spain) and the KNF Award at the Rotterdam Festival, awarded by the Circle of Dutch Journalists of Cinema as the best feature film\u00a0co\u00a0-produced with the country of the event.<\/p>\n
