With joy and excitement we begin two weeks loaded with reencounters, meetings, and screenings.<\/p>\n<p>With 5 Chilean producers participating in the Producers Network Spotlight, 12 films in the CinemaChile Screening Room, and the launch of the new International Chilean Film Catalogue \u2014 with 139 works that will go out into the world during the coming year \u2014 the market activities demonstrate a total reactivation of our industry.<\/p>\n<p>At the festival, Dominga Sotomayor arrives to present <strong><em>The Year of the Everlasting Storm<\/em><\/strong> in the Special Screenings section, a film co-directed alongside renowned directors such as Jafar Panahi, Laura Poitras, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, among others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Find out about that and much more, here!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Chile yells \u2018present\u2019 at the Producers Network <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This year, CinemaChile is the only Iberoamerican partner institution in the Producers Network, the section of March\u00e9 that fosters meetings with seasoned producers from all over the world to stimulate co-productions.<\/p>\n<p>And for the fifth consecutive year, we\u2019ll once again host the Chile Spotlight, which this year falls on July 8th.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemachile.cl\/en\/cinemachile-at-marche-du-film-cannes-2021\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10415 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1-1024x427.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1-768x320.jpg 768w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/producers-network_Mesa-de-trabajo-1-1536x640.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In-person as well as in hybrid-virtual format, the 5 producers will present their new proposals, which include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/strong> <strong>Gabriela Sandoval<\/strong> (<strong>Storyboard Media<\/strong>) will present <strong><em>Maybe It&#8217;s True What They Say About Us <\/em><\/strong>by Sof\u00eda Gomez and Camilo Becerra, produced alongside <strong>Carlos N\u00fa\u00f1ez<\/strong> who is also participating in Producers Network. The film is a fiction in development and this duo\u2019s second co-direction after <strong><em>Trastornos del sue\u00f1o<\/em><\/strong> (Trieste, 2018).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&gt; Alejandra Garc\u00eda<\/strong> <strong>(Wood Producciones)<\/strong> will present the second feature-length project by Manuela Martelli, called <strong><em>El deshielo<\/em><\/strong>; besides sharing new details about <strong><em>1976<\/em><\/strong>, her first feature. Martelli has directed short films <strong><em>Land Tides<\/em><\/strong> (Chile Factory, Quincena 2015) and <strong><em>Apnea<\/em><\/strong> (Toulouse, 2010).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&gt; Dominga Sotomayor (Cinestaci\u00f3n)<\/strong> brings, in her role as producer, <strong><em>La hierba de los caminos<\/em><\/strong>, the fourth fiction film by Fernando Lavanderos following his award-winning run with <strong><em>Lost North<\/em><\/strong> (Gramado, 2015).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&gt; Alejandro Ugarte<\/strong> <strong>(Infractor Films)<\/strong> seeks sales agents for <strong><em>Black Eyed Maria<\/em><\/strong>, directed by <strong>Benjamin Brunet<\/strong>, recently shot in the South of Chile, following its participation in WIP spaces such as the <strong>Co-Production Market and Pitching Forum<\/strong> at <strong>MIA<\/strong> in Italy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&gt; Giancarlo Nasi<\/strong> <strong>(Quijote Films) <\/strong>arrives at Cannes with two projects that will begin filming during the coming months: the long-awaited new film by Fernando Guzzoni entitled <strong><em>Blanquita<\/em><\/strong> (the director\u2019s third feature), and the first feature by Felipe G\u00e1lvez, <strong><em>The Settlers<\/em><\/strong>, an international co-production between Argentina, Denmark, and Chile.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>International Chilean Film Catalogue 2021<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another year, another catalogue of national cinema for the world!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemachile.cl\/new-chilean-films-2021\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10444 \" src=\"https:\/\/cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/eng_catalogue.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/eng_catalogue.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/eng_catalogue-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/eng_catalogue-768x344.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The publication\u2019s release took place, as has become the tradition, within the context of March\u00e9 and marks the beginning of national participation in the French industry encounter. During 9 days, different titles will be available, with documentaries presented in alliance with Chiledoc and fictions along with the sales agent of each film.<\/p>\n<p>The program includes films that made waves at international festivals in 2020 and 2021, such as: <strong><em>The Strong Ones<\/em><\/strong> by Omar Z\u00fa\u00f1iga (Meik Cine); <strong><em>Pacto de fuga<\/em><\/strong> by David Albala (Meik Cine), <strong><em>Veronica<\/em><\/strong> by Leo Medel (Films Boutique); <strong><em>Karnawal<\/em><\/strong> by Juan Pablo F\u00e9lix (Betafilms), in addition to one of the most successful Chilean animated features of late, <strong><em>Nahuel and the Magic Book<\/em> <\/strong>by Germ\u00e1n Acu\u00f1a (Latido).<\/p>\n<p>Also participating are feature-length documentaries that premiered at prestigious festivals and that trace the future of Chilean non-fiction cinema, including <strong><em>The Sky is Red<\/em><\/strong> by Francina Carbonell and <strong><em>Night Shot<\/em><\/strong> by Carolina Moscoso (Compa\u00f1\u00eda Cine), in addition to <strong><em>Gaucho Americano<\/em><\/strong> by Nicol\u00e1s Molina.<\/p>\n<p>Other documentaries in the Screening Room are beginning their international circuit, seeking to connect with programmers and distributors, such as <strong><em>Frontera<\/em><\/strong> by Paolla Castillo, <strong><em>Onkel Gunter<\/em><\/strong> by Juan Francisco Ruimall\u00f3, and <strong><em>El instante eterno<\/em><\/strong> by Sebasti\u00e1n Moreno.<\/p>\n<p>With 24 functions of 12 films over the course of 9 days, the CinemaChile Screening Room represents the variety of our talents and their proposals, revealing new perspectives and styles of cinema.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Dominga Sotomayor in the Official Selection<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10436\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10436\" style=\"width: 211px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10436\" src=\"https:\/\/cinemachile.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/dominga-sotomayor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"270\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10436\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dominga Sotomayor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For Chilean filmmaker <strong>Dominga Sotomayor<\/strong>, this edition of Cannes is a very special occasion because, just as she tells us, \u201cI have had films as a producer, but never as a director in the festival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Year of the Everlasting Storm<\/em><\/strong> is composed in the context of the unprecedented pandemic that we have experienced as a society, weaving together a love letter to the power of cinema and its narrators.<\/p>\n<p>It was shot last year at the height of the health crisis, and it\u2019s Sotomayor\u2019s first release since the highly praised epistolary documentary <strong><em>Correspondence<\/em><\/strong> (2020) co-directed with Carla Sim\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Prior, Sotomayor had participated in Cannes as a producer of the film <strong><em>Muere monstruo muere<\/em><\/strong> by Alejandro Fadell (Un certain regard, 2018).
