His career spanning more than four-decades is being paid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinelatino.fr\/actu\/hommage-alfredo-castro-acteur-fetiche-de-pablo-larrain\">homage and celebrated at the <\/a><\/span><b>Toulouse Latin American Film Festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> beginning today! We want to take advantage of this recognition by highlighting 5 landmarks of his expansive and multifaceted trajectory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9QSZ9wV-HVw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>1.- THEATER<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The work of Alfredo Castro marks a before and after on the national theater scene. Premiering at one of the worst moments of the Military Dictatorship was \u201c<\/span><b><i>Equus<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (1977), his debut, which made him stand out among critics and audiences as a promising young actor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From that moment, a fundamental motivation in his career has been to provide visibility for theater as a tool for social change. With the foundation <\/span><b><i>Teatro la Memoria<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the end of the 1980s, Alfredo created a new community meeting space. There, he premiered <\/span><b><i>Trilog\u00eda Testimonial de Chile<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, comprised of: <\/span><b><i>La manzana de Ad\u00e1n; Historia de la sangre; <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b><i>Los d\u00edas tuertos.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With these plays, Alfredo positioned himself as one of the most influential directors and actors in the history of Chilean theater, managing to penetrate the forgotten collective imaginaries of our society, while always being at the vanguard of artistic and creative thought.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><\/b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>2.- TV SITCOMS<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The multiple roles of Alfredo on Chilean television amount to nearly 27 characters \u2014 interpretations remembered and admired by an entire country. Iconic phrases from the characters that Alfredo brought to life during the golden era of the National TV network, led by Vicente Sabatini, continue to go viral on social media today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His most memorable moments include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cQu\u00e9 derroche!\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(\u201cWhat a waste [of money]!\u201d) as the character of Ernesto Lizana in <\/span><b><i>La Fiera<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1999) and the charismatic, mischievous smile of Lazlo California in <\/span><b><i>Roman\u00e9<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2000), soap opera that depicted the Romani community. Making us laugh and captivating hearts, Alfredo has managed to represent the diversity of Chilean pop culture, becoming synonymous with the idiosyncrasy of our people.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><\/b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>3.- FICTION SERIES<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2011, Alfredo took one of the greatest leaps in his career by starring in <\/span><b><i>Pr\u00f3fugos<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (\u201cFugitives\u201d) by Pablo Larra\u00edn and Jonathan Jakubowicz, the first Latin American HBO series and one of Larra\u00edn\u2019s first incursions into television. During the second season (2013), Alfredo played Freddy Ferragut, a legendary, extravagant character who completely changed the tone and depth of the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alfredo has also brought his darkness and magnetic force to the second season of <\/span><b><i>Narcos<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Jos\u00e9 Padilha (2017, Golden Trailer Awards) streaming on Netflix, and <\/span><b><i>The Pack<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Lucia Puenzo (2020, Produ Awards) on Amazon Prime.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>4.- NATIONAL CINEMA<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alfredo Castro has been Larra\u00edn\u2019s \u201cmuse\u201d since <\/span><b><i>Fuga<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2006), the director\u2019s feature-length debut, which gave rise to a powerful collaboration and friendship. That continued on films as emblematic as <\/span><b><i>Tony Manero<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2008, Best Male Performance at the Torino and Havana film festivals), <\/span><b><i>Post Mortem<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2010, Best Actor at the Guadalajara Film Festival), <\/span><b><i>No<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2012), <\/span><b><i>El Club<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2015, Platino Award and F\u00e9nix Award for Best Male Performance), and <\/span><b><i>Neruda<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2016).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Larra\u00edn has repeatedly declared his undying admiration for his muse\u2019s acting talent, while Alfredo says that he sees Larra\u00edn as a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">maestro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who taught him the profession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other iconic roles of his include the film <\/span><b><i>Los Perros<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2017) by Marcela Said, where Alfredo played Juan, a former army colonel, and for which he won Best Male Performance at the Platino Awards in 2018. With <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/antes.cinemachile.cl\/en\/espanol-el-director-chileno-espanol-theo-court-gana-mejor-direccion-en-festival-de-venecia\/?_page=2\"><b><i>White on White<\/i><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2019) by Theo Court, which premiered in the Orizzonti section at Venice Film Festival, Alfredo became the first Latin American actor to obtain the Starlight International Cinema Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And in <\/span><b><i>My Tender Matador<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2020) by Rodrigo Sepulveda, which also premiere in Venice, in the section Venice Days, Alfredo showed a new facet as the Queen of the Corner, a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">travesti<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who gets involved in a risk-laiden clandestine operation during the Pinochet dictatorship, winning the Mezcal Award for Best Actor at the Guadalajara Film Festival, among many others.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>5.- GLOBAL CINEMA<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without a doubt, Alfredo has projected himself into the global sphere and become one of the most important faces in arthouse cinema.
